25th Annual Southeast PA Grazing Conference
In an effort to get the information about the 2018 grazing conference online we are posting this info and the attached PDF of the event flier here on our farm blog...
Dear Fellow Graziers,
Lancaster County Graziers is planning the 25th annual learning session for people interested in the grass-fed opportunity. This is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20 and 21, 2018. The Theme for the 2018 Conference is “The Next 25 years.” This will prove to be a fun and stimulating time celebrating 25 years of promoting grazing and it’s healthy balance in the Northeast. Beginning Tuesday registration will be opened at 7:30 at the upgraded Hoffman Building on the Solanco Fairgrounds in Quarryville, so come early, and as usual come prepared to learn. Our speaker line up is shorter than usual but no lack of good info. Jack Fuhrmann will begin on Tuesday promptly at 9 am by introducing us to the Vision that makes up “Our Fathers Farm" near Gretna, Virginia. Jack husband of Kim and father of nine children ranging in age from 4-22. Jack was raised on a farm. After a career as a commercial airline pilot and time on the foreign mission eld in Africa they felt called back to VA and to the farm. Jack and Kim will share how family goals and health and 100% grass fed, A2 A2, cows, all natural beyond organic farm, make up “Our Fathers Farm.” Second on for Tuesday is Leroy Hershberger. Leroy lives in Reno County Kansas, where he juggles, repairs farm machinery & teaches high school shop classes. He likes traveling & spent a year working on small dairy farms in Switzerland and Germany. He tells stories of growing up Amish, from nature, folk-lore and sacred wisdom. Leroy believes that storytelling not only delights, but also enlightens and heals, and, that everyone should do it!
We are more than honored to have Joel Salatin (one of the most well know farmers in the world). Joel brings a wealth of knowledge and will have plenty of books along for sale. Both Leroy and Jack will be on again after Joel Salatin does a marathon speaking tour moving through the titles of his books and hitting on various important topics as per the agenda above.
If grass management and farm potential moving into the next 25 years is of interest to you this will be an opportunity of a life time to learn from many years of experience from people who know and understand the challenges of grass based agriculture. This knowledge is from people that are actually doing it and reaping a premium for it. People who can tell the story of well rounded sustainability.
John K. Lapp is again in charge of the food. We need milk, cream, yogurt, and cheese. To donate contact him at 717-733-1766. Good opportunity to advertise your food items. Your donations of especially dairy or baked goods will be greatly appreciated. This helps keep costs down and sources local food. The evening meal will be finger food. Bring your favorite healthy snack like cheese, meat, gluten free cookies or healthy drink (Kombucha etc.). After all food is what farmers are about, right? Let’s make quality food our enjoyment as we spend time in sustainable socializing.
Please take a little time now to fill out and send in your application - immediately if possible. This will help us plan a successful conference. If you have suggestions or ideas for the committee you can send them with your registration or email Roman at mailto:[email protected]. Hope to see you there!
